An Innovative Approach to Planning

Actively planning for the future of one of Richmond’s most important and historic areas is critical to the vitality of the city. That’s why we were focused on the Church Hill and the Nine Mile Road corridor through the week-long planning charrette, which took place from June 2 to June 7.

The charrette involved a holistic, collaborative planning process that harnessed the talents and energies of all interested parties to create and support a long-term vision for this area of Richmond. Learn more about charrettes.

The charrette process is not new to Richmond. Several similar events have been held here including two unique hospital charrettes at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center and Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital – both to develop master site plans for the health care facilities.

The East End Planning charrette was a bit different. In this instance, we planned for the revitalization of part of the City of Richmond – Church Hill and the Nine Mile Road corridor.
